Sports Before Eating to Control Blood Sugar

Controlling blood sugar is becoming an important factor for patients with diabetes. One way is to inject insulin before or after meals. But researchers say that there is a way to replace the role of insulin.
Recent research from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand proved that intense exercise before meals can help reduce the rise in blood sugar significantly. It is very beneficial for those who experience a decline in insulin function.
"Exercise is done routinely able to make the body more healthy, and in a short period of intense exercise before meals can reduce the increase in blood sugar significantly," said Monique Francois, head of the research team, as quoted by Reuters on Friday (05/16/2014).
Francois said that sport turns out to have the same role as insulin, which stimulates the muscles to absorb blood sugar. So the weight of sport you play, the faster your muscles absorb blood sugar.
Other results show that there is a decrease in blood sugar levels as much as 17 percent after breakfast and 13 percent after dinner for those who previously did sports. Average blood sugar levels are down 12 percent during the day.
This research was conducted Francois to two women and seven men who had a decrease in insulin function. Two of them have type 2 diabetes but no one does the treatment or maintain blood sugar levels.
The participants were asked to perform an exercise program for a full day. One is running on a treadmill before breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each exercise is done for 30 minutes.
